Dear Fellow Republican,
Largely through your efforts, President George W. Bush has been elected to a second term. Congratulations and
thank you for your dedication and your vote.
The race is never over, though. We now face city-wide elections for Mayor, Controller and Public Advocate, as well
as for City Council members. We need you again. We need candidates, campaign workers and money. We need telephones
offices and furniture.
Our Republican Party - that is, Brooklyn - did much better than expected in November. With very few resources three
of our candidates for State Assembly seriously challenged entrenched democratic incumbents. If we push, we will
likely win a seat in the Assembly in 2006. If we push a little more and a little sooner, we will likely win a seat
on the City Council this year.
If you want to help, we need you. Call the county headquarters, or better still, click on Local Leaders and
contact you district leaders or you local club. We need you not only to help our candidates, we need you to be
a candidate - for the County Committee. I promise that it won't take up much of your time or effort, but it really
means a lot.
It's not just elections, though. There are national issues, such as Social Security, the national economy and the
war on terror that need to be addressed. We will be posting articles from time to time to help you understand what
the issues are and what is at stake. There are also plenty of local issues that need attention. We plan to do the
same with those issues, as well.
How can you help? First we must all get up to speed on what the various issues are. Then we must talk to our neighbors.
As I've already said, we will post issue papers on this site to help you. Don't let anyone get away with lies and
half-truths. Call them on it. Politely.
Write letters to the editors of the many newspapers in Brooklyn and New York City. Tell them what you tell your
neighbors. Let New Yorkers who are on the fence hear from us. Send the message that our federation and our neighborhoods
are important to us.
Call into talk shows, not the conservative ones, because we will only be talking to ourselves.Call all the other
ones with the same message you send to the editors of the newspapers and to your neighbors. Challenge all unproven
points of view. Put pressure on the Democratic machine. Spread the word to all: It's not only OK, it's a good idea
to vote Republican.
We really need to come through for our families and our neighborhoods. We can do it and we must do it.
With all my best wishes,
Hy Singer
